National Mechanics
Gastropubs in Philadelphia
National Mechanics occupies a former bank building at 3rd and Chestnut in Old City, originally built in 1836 by architect William Strickland for Mechanics National Bank. The high-ceilinged main room keeps the feel of the old banking hall, now filled with bar seating, dining tables, and a large projection screen alongside multiple TVs. Beyond regular service, the bar runs a full weekly lineup of programmed nights, including trivia, karaoke, and DJ sets, and its own site describes the space as working for private events in addition to casual hangouts and game days. The kitchen serves a full food menu alongside an extensive beer list and cocktails, supporting groups that book the space for private gatherings. Located a block from Independence Hall, the bar draws both neighborhood regulars and visitors exploring Old City, and it stays open late on weekends with happy hour and brunch service on weekend mornings.

We were waited on immediately. The food and drinks were excellent. The service was excellent as well. I love the pseudo steam punk theme.
