Bartram's Garden

Bartram's Garden is a National Historic Landmark on the banks of the Schuylkill River in Southwest Philadelphia, and is recognized as the oldest surviving botanic garden in North America. The property centers on the 18th century Bartram house and includes a historic coach house with a catering kitchen, a barn, a brick courtyard, a common flower garden, and the newer Eastwick Pavilion, which overlooks the river. Catered private events, run through an exclusive partnership with a named catering company, are booked for up to several hundred guests and include wedding ceremonies and receptions, cocktail parties, corporate meetings, and staff retreats. Smaller free community gatherings of up to 50 people are also available on a separate track. The grounds include a working dock and community boathouse on the river, and public restrooms are maintained during welcome center hours. The riverside meadows and historic outbuildings give the garden a working farm character distinct from a formal botanical garden.
