Independence Seaport Museum
Museums in Philadelphia
Independence Seaport Museum sits directly on the Delaware River waterfront in Penn's Landing, a short walk from Old City, and documents the region's maritime history. Its rental program includes a fourth floor ballroom with a terrace overlooking the river, a theater that seats up to 500 for concerts or presentations, and several gallery spaces used for cocktail receptions and dinners. Two historic vessels moored at the museum's docks, the 1892 cruiser Olympia and the World War II era submarine Becuna, are also available to rent for small group functions and ceremonies, giving the museum event spaces on the water as well as inside. The museum keeps a list of four preferred outside catering partners rather than running its own kitchen, and walk-through site visits are available by appointment. Because the building faces the river directly across from Camden, evening events here look out on the working waterfront rather than a park or city skyline alone.
